To keep your piano sounding as good as it can, most manufacturers recommend at least two tunings per year. As noted above, a piano that that has been neglected is often very sharp or flat (more than 10%) and requires at least two tunings (performed in one visit) to stabilize it, with regular tunings afterwards to keep it in top shape.
